So it was soggy, but that didn’t get us down! We had a great 4th and I hope you did too.
It started out a bit frustrating in the morning. I was planning on waking up and whipping up a cute little shirt for DS who just turned 4 – so naturally I thought my “Happy 4th” pattern would be perfect – LOL, well… I started by hooping my stabilizer and thought it would be easier to just spray on that sticky stuff and “stick” the t-shirt on top of the hoop instead of actually hooping it. In theory it would have been a perfect solution to avoid stretching out the knit, BUT I kind of didn’t pay great attention to what I was doing and a 10min. process turned into 2 hours!
The first mishap was my fabric accidentally got stitched together with the placement stitch, that one I caught and it wasn’t too bad getting out. Then, lol, I noticed that the cover stitch on the background square was bunching kinda funny. What do ya know!? The t-shirt had gathered together and was totally bunched in with the satin stitch… that one took a while to take out and stitch over again. THEN to top things off, while stitching the words my thread jumped off the track and I ended up with a HUGE birds nest under the shirt. So I carefully took it off the machine trying to keep the stabilizer from moving in the hoop. I cut the birds nest and tried to carefully pull out the stitches, but it had already stitched half of the words so there was a lot to work on. While working on it I accidentally popped the stabilizer out of the hoop. OH NO!! To make things worse I didn’t simply have the design centered, I had to move it to the top of the hoop, so getting it just in the right place was practically impossible. Needless to say my mood was slipping south of happy. I kept it together and got it pretty close to the same spot eventually. It took forever to get all of the tiny under stitching out, but I did and over all it was just a little off (you can see the “h” in “th” is on the border stitching, oh well, good enough – LOL!
So after all the drama I waited for my DH and DS to get home from the store so I could pop it on DS and get the satisfaction that all the work was not in vain. Except when he came home he didn’t want to wear it anymore..ARGH!! I honestly was ready to have a good ol’ tantrum. I didn’t though. I simply put the shirt on a chair and took a picture.
Later that afternoon some friends came over with their sweet little boy and jealousy ruled as we tried the shirt on him automatically making my dear 4 yr old want to put it on immediately. So the shirt was worn, and satisfactorily stained with watermelon, mustard, catsup and great 4th of July fun!
The rain didn’t stop us from enjoying our friends, food, and later it even cleared up for some bubble fun! We didn’t light the fireworks this year, but we had a great time and laughed a lot. Overall I’d say the morning was just a lesson in procrastination. I don’t think it would have been such an issue had I not waited until the morning of to get my project finished. Oh well, some habits are hard to break.
Hopefully you had a great day and enjoyed your independence where ever you are in the world!

Hey Leslie,
DS stands for Dear Son, DH is Dear Husband, LOL is laugh out loud, ROFL is rolling on floor laughing… let’s see what other computer speak do I use?? Umm… MIL is mother in law, I guess that’s pretty much it. You probably knew some of them, but I thought I’d put it out there in case others were wondering.
I bet your DS is doing a good job making your toes nice and gooey – LOL.
Thanks
. I’ll be a photographic genius by lunch time. LOL
It would take better pictures if I could figure out what all the dials do. LOL
Don’t worry, I found a book
Hey! what does “DS” stand for?
btw, the whole time i was reading this my “sweet little boy” has been trying to chew on my toes.
Your new camera really takes great pictures. The shirt is great.
But see, telling you about my problems only shows that I’m human too. LOL Because I know there’s a rumor going around that I’m really SUPER MOM! It’s just a rumor though, so sorry to deflate any hopes out there-LOL. The size of the tackdown stitches weren’t a problem really at all it was the underlay to the words that took FOREVER to take out.
I know the shirt turned out great anyway. Thanks Steph.
Gorgeous pictures! Looks like ya’ll had a wonderful day!! Glad DS finally wore the shirt. Frustrating as it may have been, turned out great and wouldn’t of known the trouble if you hadn’t told us about it. HINT – change your tack down stitches to .6 min length so they’re not so small
